The movie "Gurudev Hoysala" is a must-watch according to SIBY JEYYA's review. The film follows the story of Gurudev, a tough policeman played by Dhananjaya, who marries an abandoned inter-caste couple, Bhoomi and Ravi, only to find out later that Bhoomi is the daughter of the local landowner who is against their union. Gurudev must then sacrifice everything to save the couple from Bhoomi's father and his army, as well as his superiors who ordered him to retrieve Bhoomi. However, destiny has other plans for them.
Despite a mixed year for Dhananjaya in 2022, "Gurudev Hoysala" provides an ideal comeback vehicle for him, showcasing his excellent skills in fighting villains with style. The film also features a great performance from Naveen Shankar as Bali, whose full potential has been explored by director Vijay. The chemistry between Dhananjaya and Naveen Shankar creates a thrilling rivalry that benefits the film.
The film's conclusion could have been more powerful, but it still manages to break away from the recent trend of portraying police officers negatively by presenting them in a positive light. Set in North Karnataka, the movie's presentation may not be original, but it is different and engaging. The relationship between Pratap Narayan and Naveen Shankar's characters is reminiscent of Duryodhana and Karna's relationship in the Mahabharata.
The dialogues in "Hoysala," written by Masthi, are catchy and effective, and the acting performances are commendable. Amrutha Iyengar plays the perfect spouse, portraying a woman who knows that people come first for the Hoysala. The film does not have any unnecessary love songs, which are often added as a bonus in action movies. Overall, "Hoysala" is a respectable addition to Sandalwood's police movie canon and is worth watching multiple times in the theater with some popcorn.
